    Outdoor Space That Lasts

Fences and decks are the parts of a property that live outdoors full time, and they are usually the first thing a visitor sees. Built with the right timber and the right footings they last decades; built cheaply they start moving within a couple of winters.

We build new fences, gates and decks, and we repair and restain what you already have. Posts go in at the correct depth in H4 treated timber, decking is H3.2 or better, and we will tell you honestly when a repair is the smarter spend than a replacement.

    Decks and Outdoor Living

Built To Be Stood On For Years.

A deck is structure before it is a surface. Most of the decks we are called to repair failed at the bearers, the joist hangers or the footings, not the boards everyone was looking at.
We build to last, in timber or composite, with the handrails and balustrades right where the height calls for them.

    Our decking services include:

    • New timber and composite decks
    • Deck extensions and reconfiguration
    • Stairs, handrails and balustrades
    • Substructure and pile repairs
    • Board replacement and re-fixing
    • Sanding, staining and oiling
    • Privacy screens and planters

Decks over a metre high need a compliant barrier — we will tell you where yours sits before we start.

    Fences and Gates

Straight Now, Straight In Ten Years.

A fence is only as good as what is holding it up. We set H4 posts to depth in concrete and get the line and the heights right before a single paling goes on.
Timber, aluminium, louvre or pool fencing — including the gates, which are the part that gets used a thousand times a year.

    What we build:

    • Timber paling and slat fences
    • Louvre and aluminium fencing
    • Pool fencing to the safety requirements
    • Retaining and boundary fences
    • Pedestrian and vehicle gates
    • Automated gate installation
    • Post replacement and re-straightening

For a shared boundary fence, the Fencing Act 1978 lets the cost be split with your neighbour — we can quote it so it is easy to put to them.

    Repairs, Cleaning and Restaining

    Cheaper Than Replacing.

Most tired fences and decks are structurally fine and simply weathered. A wash, a sand and a fresh coat brings them back for a fraction of a rebuild, and buys years before the real spend is needed.
We do this as a standalone job or as part of getting a property ready to sell or re-let.

    Well suited to:

    • Water blasting and mould treatment
    • Restaining and repainting
    • Storm damage repairs
    • Rotten paling and board replacement
    • Gate re-hanging and hardware
    • Pre-sale and end-of-tenancy tidy-ups

Best done in a dry stretch — we will book it around the weather rather than coat over damp timber.

The team turned up when they said they would and kept us in the loop the whole way through. The kitchen looks better than we pictured it and the job wrapped up two days ahead of the quoted date. Could not fault them at all.

We had water damage through the back of the house and needed it sorted quickly for insurance. Having one point of contact meant we were not chasing five different trades, and every update came through without us asking.

Had insulation, extractor fans and a heat pump put into two rentals to get them compliant. Clear quote up front, no surprises on the final invoice, and both properties passed the follow up inspection without any issues.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have home renovation builders in Auckland?

Yes. Affordable Homes has experienced builders who specialise in commercial and residential house renovations in Auckland. We are familiar with the local building codes and have completed hundreds of successful projects across the region. Regardless of where you are based, we can complete your remodel on time and within budget.

Do you service other locations outside of Auckland?

We work nationwide. Tell us where the property is when you enquire and we will confirm the nearest crew and what the timing looks like.

How do I choose the best renovation companies in Auckland and throughout New Zealand?

Look for a licensed building practitioner, a written quote that itemises the work, proof of insurance, and references from recent jobs of a similar size. We are happy to provide all four before you commit to anything.

Will my renovation project require building consent?

It depends on the work. Structural changes, plumbing and drainage alterations and most additions need consent; cosmetic work usually does not. We assess this during the site visit and handle the application for you where one is required.

    Arrears Management

For managed properties we handle arrears follow up on your behalf, with clear written records of every contact made.

    Regular Inspections

Scheduled property inspections with a photographic report after each visit, so you always know the current condition of the building.
